Inmate Captured After Escaping From Sugar Pine Fire Camp

An inmate from Sugar Pine Conservation Camp escaped for a short time Thursday afternoon, according to the Department of Corrections. Although there are no fences to keep them there, escapes are rare from the minimum security facility. Located a few miles northeast of Bella Vista off of Highway 299, the camp houses state prison inmates. Just before 2 O’clock Thursday a Cal-Fire Officer on his way to the camp saw a man crouched down beside the road and suspected he was an inmate. A headcount was done and 28-year-old Anthony Jimenez turned up missing. About two hours later Jimenez was captured just off the highway. He had been committed to a 3-year-8-month prison term for vehicle theft and evading a peace officer while driving recklessly. He was due to be released to probation in December.  After his capture Jimenez was taken to the high security prison in Susanville. He’s no longer eligible for conservation camp duty, and he’ll get considerable time added to his sentence for escape.
