Unemployment Rate Hits 17 Year Low

The unemployment rate in Shasta County has reached the lowest level for September since the year 2000. The un-adjusted 5.3% rate was 7-tenths of a point less than August and almost a full point lower than a year ago. Even though the size of the labor force has grown, the county gained 2000 jobs over the course of the year. The jobless rate for Tehama County 5.4% last month. It was 4.8% in Trinity County and 5.9% in Siskiyou County. California’s rate was 5.1%, unchanged from the previous month. The national unemployment rate was 4.2% last month.
