K-9 Helps Nab Suspected Car Thief After Chase

A stolen car was recovered after a brief chase Sunday afternoon. Just before One O’clock someone reported seeing his friend’s stolen Acura SUV on Athens Avenue. He followed it but lost sight of it on Park Marina Drive. A Redding Police officer quickly caught up to the car on Highway 44 and followed it onto Hilltop Drive. By then backup had arrived and the officers tried to pull over the stolen car but the driver made a getaway attempt. Two blocks later the Acura crashed into a light pole in front of Dairy Queen and the driver took off running up the canal on the other side of Churn Creek Road. Two RPD K-9s were used to track through the Canby Road neighborhood. Cain the K-9 found 24-year-old Terry Allen Decutler underneath a vehicle in the driveway of a home. Decutler was not cooperative and Cain had to drag him out. He was taken to a hospital to get his dog bites and crash injuries looked at, then he was booked into jail. Police say Decutler admitted to stealing the car and driving it for about a week. He was just arrested last month with an allegedly stolen car.
