Lewiston Man Arrested For DUI After Crashing Into Police Car

Redding Police say an officer’s patrol car was hit by a drunk driver…as she was investigating a different drunk driver…who had almost hit a different patrol car. Around 9:30PM Friday night 25-year-old William Ashmun was stopped on Hilltop Drive after apparently almost getting his Dodge Spirit t-boned by a police car as he pulled away from the stop sign on Industrial Street. Ashmun is on felony probation in Sacramento and Shasta County and has no drivers license. He was eventually arrested for possession of Methamphetamine and driving under the influence of drugs. While the stop was taking place, two more RPD vehicles showed up, all three with their lights ablaze. As they were wrapping things up, Officer Johnson had just gotten into her RPD Interceptor SUV when 62-year-old Terrence Ellison of Lewiston came along in his Dodge Dakota pickup, drifting to the right. He missed the first RPD car, hit the back left corner of Officer Johnson’s car, then veered back onto the roadway to miss the third police car before stopping a short distance away. Officer Johnson hadn’t yet put her seatbelt on and sustained minor injuries. Ellison, who has a prior DUI, allegedly had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. He was arrested for felony DUI with injury.
