Police Say Suspected Gang Members Arrested After Drive-By Shooting

Five people were arrested after a reported drive-by shooting near Corning High School, according to the Corning Observer. The shooting, believed to be gang related, happened at around 12:30PM Friday afternoon. The target was apparently the Richfield Apartments, though nobody was struck. A Corning Police Officer stopped a Nissan Sentra moments later. He ordered all five people out of the car at gunpoint, but only one complied and he tried to run away. The officer tackled him and a gun popped out of his waistband. Other officers arrived and the other four suspects were taken into custody as well. Two more handguns were found in the car. Two of the guns had apparently been stolen earlier in the day from a Corning home burglary. Five Hispanic males, all of them from Corning, were arrested. At least two of them are juveniles. Police say they’re affiliated with the Nortenos.
