An explosion beneath the railroad tracks near Downtown Redding turned out to be fairly uneventful. At around 8:30AM Tuesday morning multiple 9-1-1 callers reported a boom followed by a cloud of black smoke off Railroad Avenue near Milo Avenue. Redding Firefighters responded and eventually determined it was from a warming fire started by homeless people in a large culvert that runs beneath the railroad tracks. The explosion was apparently caused by aerosol paint cans. Fire Investigator Patrick O’Connor said there was no damage and nobody was hurt.
