Driver Arrested After Double Fatal Crash At 4 Corners In East Redding

A 25-year-old Redding woman has been arrested following a crash that killed two people overnight in East Redding. The collision happened at 12:35AM at the corner of Hartnell and Churn Creek. A Ford Freestyle driven by 25-year-old Kendra Andersen-Schwegerl was southbound on Churn Creek Road. She was alone in the SUV and witnesses say she was speeding and was straddling both southbound lanes. When she got to the Hartnell intersection the light was red and she plowed into the right rear of a Toyota Corolla containing five people. Both vehicles slid across the intersection. The driver of the Toyota and one passenger were killed. Family has been notified and the deceased are identified by the coroner’s office as 19-year-old Erica Young and 18-year-old Wa-Rec Lacy Mae Jackson. The other three passengers were 19-year-old Ralph Joseph, who had injuries to his left arm and leg, 18-year-old Daisy Reece, who had head pain, and 19-year-old Clifford Bailey, who suffered a broken jaw. Andersen-Schwegerl had minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital. There were open containers of alcohol in her SUV and she consented to a blood draw to test for alcohol level. The results are still being processed, but she was arrested for felony driving under the influence with injury and two counts of vehicular manslaughter.  She allegedly admitted that she had been drinking. The intersection was closed for more than five hours for the RPD traffic investigation.
