State Grant Will Fund Anti DUI Enforcement Campaign

Redding Police have gotten a large grant for DUI enforcement and education. Impaired driving continues to take its toll on the lives of Californian’s, and the problem is apparently getting worse. After falling to a ten year low in 2010 the number of road fatalities has increased nearly 17%. Pedestrian and bicycle deaths now represent almost 25% of all traffic fatalities.  A $315,000 grant to the Redding Police Department from the California Office of Traffic Safety will pay for a full time DUI Officer, DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols, educational presentations, and enforcement of distracted driving, seat belts and child safety seats, speed, red lights, stopsigns, bicycles, pedestrians and motorcycles. The DUI enforcement will embrace the new campaign that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze”.
