Anderson Officers Say Burglary Suspect Attempts To Hide Under Child Safety Seat

A burglary suspect was unable to find a decent hiding place early Thursday morning, according to Anderson Police. At 1:17AM a resident of Cazadero way reported that a man was in his back yard trying to get through his slider door. As officers were on their way the resident said he thought the prowler had left in a pickup truck. The backyard was searched by Aero the K-9, and nobody was there. Meanwhile, a neighbor down the street called to report that a suspicious-looking pickup had just parked in front of his house. Officers found the truck was illegally parked and they looked inside to see muddy footprints across the front seats leading into the back. In the back seat was 37-year-old Javier Lopez, trying in vain to conceal himself underneath a child safety seat. He refused to come out and resisted, but after a struggle he was taken into custody. Officers say Lopez told them he had gone to the house to collect a debt. He was treated at a hospital for injuries from the struggle, then booked into jail.
