Repeat Arsonist Gets Lengthy Prison Term

A man who has been connected with arson cases for many years has reached a plea bargain that’ll send him to prison. 43-year-old Thomas Drumm spent 2 years in Napa State Hospital after he was deemed mentally incompetent to be tried for a series of 5 arson fires in 1997. The charges were dismissed in 1999. Drumm was again committed to Napa State Hospital in 2006 after another series of arson fires. One of them destroyed a warehouse full of paper files behind Alliance Title Company on Grove Street, with damage of $750,000. Drumm was also implicated in a vegetation fire next to Beverly Healthcare and another one on North Bechelli Lane but he was again deemed mentally incompetent. In 2013 Drumm was convicted of starting a fire near Buckeye Elementary School. The current case involves a fire that Drumm started in his backyard. It spread and threatened nearby homes. At the time, Drumm was on parole from his previous conviction. Thursday the District Attorney’s office struck a plea deal with Drumm for an 8 year prison sentence.
