Shasta County Unemployment Has Never Been Lower

Unemployment in Shasta County has hit an all-time low. Last month had the lowest jobless rate for any month of any year since modern record-keeping began in 1990. The October rate of 4.9% follows a 5.3% rate in September and a 6.2% rate in October of last year. The robust employment numbers are even more impressive in light of the fact that the labor force increased by 1100 workers. EDD Job Market Analyst Sheila Stock tells us the last time there were 77,000 people in Shasta County’s labor force was in 2012 when the jobless rate was 14.2%. Part of the improvement is attributable to an 87% seasonal increase in farm labor due to the strawberry harvest. Shasta County matched California’s unemployment rate at 4.9%. Tehama and Trinity Counties both had a rock bottom rate of 4.7%. It was 5.6% in Siskiyou County.
