Fire Damages Home In South Redding

A house in South Redding was heavily damaged by fire early Wednesday morning. Redding Firefighters were dispatched at around 1:20AM to Ely Lane in the Girvan Neighborhood. They found a house largely engulfed in flames. The two occupants, a man and his adult son, had made it out safely. The son had awoken when his cell phone beeped because of loss of electricity and then he discovered the fire. Much of the back of the house was consumed by flames, which destroyed a couple rooms with some spread into the attic. Redding Fire Marshal Craig Wittner says it started from a woodstove on the enclosed back porch. The family dog was found in good shape but the cat is missing. There was apparently no homeowners insurance for the place.
