Nevada Man Cited With Over 2000 Pounds Of Cannabis

A massive seizure of marijuana has been made in Trinity County. Tuesday a Trinity County Sheriff’s Deputy was on patrol on Highway 36 south of Hayfork when he pulled over a pickup truck that was hauling an enclosed trailer. After speaking with the driver, 53-year-old James Bonetti of Henderson, Vevada, the deputy reportedly developed probable cause for a search. The trailer was apparently packed with processed marijuana bud with a total weight of 2,060 pounds. The sheriff’s office seized it, along with $22,600 cash. Bonetti was cited for possession and transportation of marijuana for sale, and he was released at the scene. Although marijuana has in some ways been decriminalized in California, rules for retail sales vary widely by county and they don’t go into effect anywhere until the first of the year. Even then, transporting it is still a dicey prospect, especially in that kind of excessive quantity. It’s not known if Bonetti had planned to take the ton of cannabis back to Nevada with him.
