Update: Woman Extricated After Tow Truck Crashes Into Her Vehicle

A woman suffered critical injuries in a crash on Highway 299 just west of Old Shasta Thursday afternoon. At around 1:45PM a flat bed tow truck that was already hauling a pickup truck was being driven by 71-year-old William Hall Jr. eastbound. The CHP says he allowed the tow truck to drift across the center line, running head-on into a Ford Taurus driven by a 30-year-old Redding woman, according to CHP Sergeant D Tennette. Prior to the impact the driver of the Taurus apparently tried to avoid the tow truck by swerving to the left but at the same time hall swerved back in that direction to try to correct himself. The crash pushed the Ford off the road as both vehicles went down an embankment. The woman was trapped and had to be extricated before being transported to Mercy Hospital with multiple major injuries. Her prognosis is not good and it’s not known if she’ll survive. Hall suffered some leg pain. Traffic on the highway backed up for miles as crews worked to clear the scene.
