State Grant Will Fund Restoration Efforts Along Sacramento River

A state grant will pay for some restoration work along the Sacramento River behind the Redding Civic Auditorium. The City of Redding has secured a nearly-$600,000 grant through a statewide voter-approved parks and rivers bond. It’ll be used to make changes to a 25 acre swath between the rodeo grounds boatramp and Turtle Bay. Some of the work has already been done involving the removal of invasive species and replanting of native vegetation. More of that will be done, as well as the creation of a pollinator garden and removal of some of the paving that provides parking and access to the boatramp. It’ll be replaced by parking that’s further from the river’s edge. The larger plan is to eventually extend the river trail from Turtle Bay to downtown and further protect that section of the river, which is referred to as the “Redding Riffle”.
