Anderson Police Make A Dozen Arrests in Thief Sweep

A special effort by Anderson Police to round up thieves resulted in a dozen arrests. The operation by the APD’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit on Monday and Tuesday involved a series of undercover details, probation searches, warrant services and pro-active patrols. The first thing officers did Monday was to dress in plain clothes and assist with loss prevention at WalMart. Ten people were arrested on charges including commercial burglary, drug possession and outstanding felony warrants. At 7:10 Monday evening officers at WalMart tried to stop two theft suspects, but they fled to car that was waiting for them. The driver put the car in reverse and backed quickly away from the officers and fled the parking lot. An officer in a marked police car tried to stop the car too, but the driver sped away with officers in pursuit. After the driver ran a red light and drove into oncoming traffic, officers terminated the pursuit out of safety concerns. The sweep continued Tuesday with probation searches on theft offenders. 24-year-old Nicholis Hensher was arrested for possession of heroin for sale. 15 addresses were visited but most of the offenders were not home. Many had moved without notifying the Probation Department. As Tuesday’s operations were wrapping up, the car that had been chased from WalMart was spotted parked on Bruce Street. The driver, 28-year-old Adam Lembke, reportedly admitted that it was he who had fled from them the previous night. He was booked on several charges.
