Man Sentenced To 19 Years In Prison For Downtown Stabbing

A man who stabbed another man in view of dozens of witnesses has been sentenced. 44-year-old Ernest Lechuga had been staying at the Ponderosa Inn with his elderly girlfriend, and on March 11th management asked them to leave the motel because Lechuga had been assaulting the woman. There was a confrontation between Lechuga and motel employee Christopher Aguilar. Lechuga pulled out a knife and chased the 51-year-old man through the parking lot until Aguilar tripped and fell to the ground. Lechuga started stabbing Aguilar in the head and abdomen in full sight of diners at Lulu’s restaurant. Aguilar recovered from his wounds. Lechuga pleaded guilty to attempted voluntary manslaughter and felony spousal battery and was sentenced Monday to 19 years in state prison.
