Residents Encouraged To Sign Up For Code Red Alert System

Several Shasta County public safety agencies have teamed up and have setup a system to alert residents to evacuations and other public safety notifications. The Community Notification System can target specific streets, neighborhoods or communities without alarming areas that are not in danger and can help to avoid the gridlock seen after the massive wildfires in the Wine Country in October. Although the system automatically dials all land lines, residents who wish to get alerts on their cell phones need to sign up. Visit shascom911.com and look for the code red icon to sign up. Assistance with the process is provided by calling 245-6512.
