Two Stabbed While Trying To Disarm Man At East Redding Bar

A man stabbed three people at an East Redding bar before he was brought under control. At 11:15PM Wednesday night Redding Police were called to the Castle Lounge on Hartnell Avenue. Dispatchers could hear a loud struggle in the background and officers arrived to find several customers physically holding on to 23-year-old Nicholas Morgan Vanvleet. He was handcuffed by officers but continued to struggle so he was placed in leg constraints. He had apparently arrived in the parking lot and accused 45-year-old Bryan Rhodes of being the Devil before stabbing him several times in the upper arm and chest. Rhodes ran inside the bar and reported what had happened. The bartender, 37-year-old Steven McGrath, and a customer, 63-year-old Gary Morris, went outside to disarm Vanvleet but in the process McGrath was stabbed in his wrist and the top of his head. Morris suffered a wound to his hand. None of the victims’ wounds were very serious. Vanvleet was booked into jail.
