Felon Arrested After Break-In On Hilltop Drive

A felon was arrested after allegedly breaking into a sporting goods store early Wednesday. Officers were called to Sportman’s Warehouse on hilltop Drive at 1:28AM after a burglary alarm was triggered. Officers arrived within minutes and with help from a CHP helicopter they searched the roof of the building and a K9 was sent inside the store, but a suspect was not found. Officer Joseph Labbe was doing an area check across the street and a suspicious man in the area of Canby Road and Dusty Lane. The officer says that the man had on soaking wet pants and was acting very nervous. The officer believed that the man had possibly crossed a drainage ditch between Sportman’s Warehouse and Canby Road or possibly fled through wet vegetation. The man was identified as 30-year-old Daniel Francis Burger and it was determined that he was on active felony probation. He was searched and apparently had several stolen items from the store in his backpack.Officers reviewed surveillance footage and Burger was allegedly seen wearing the same shoes and backpack caught on camera. He was booked into Shasta County Jail.
