Donation Will Help Build Animal Recover Center At Turtle Bay

A long wished-for facility at Turtle Bay will be built thanks to a donation from local retired businessman, politician and philanthropist Maurice Johannessen and his wife Marianne. The new state-of-the art animal recovery center will be built within the park’s “Wildlife Woods” area. The facility will allow veterinarians to treat animals on site, will ease acclimation during quarantine periods, and will allow creatures to take a break from the day-to-day stress of human exposure. Construction begins this spring and competition is expected in 6 to 8 months. It’s all made possible by a gift of $200,000 from the Johannessens. Progress on the animal recovery center will be posted to turtlebay.org.
