Woman Rescued After Car Crashes Down 400 Foot Embankment

A woman took quite a tumble after her pickup left a mountain road in Siskiyou County. Just before 9 O’clock Saturday morning the CHP and rescuers were called to a cliff next to Highway 263 just north of the Dry Creek Bridge. A Chevy Colorado pickup was about 400 feet down the steep embankment. A CHP Officer, EMT’s and Cal Fire personnel used ropes to descend the cliff to the truck. They found a 45-year-old Klamath River woman pinned inside, still alive, with multiple life-threatening injuries. With some creative engineering she was extricated from the pickup. The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Dive Team then delivered her across the Shasta River to a waiting ambulance. The CHP says she had been northbound on the highway when she drifted onto the shoulder, then veered back across the roadway, across the gravel shoulder and over the edge. The truck overturned multiple times down the steep hill before being stopped by some trees. Nine different public safety agencies assisted in the rescue.
