K9 Helps Uncover Drugs During Traffic Stop

The sensitive nose of a Shasta County Sheriff’s K9 led to a sizeable drug seizure at the north edge of Redding. At 3:09AM Saturday morning a Shasta Lake City Deputy on Oasis Road spotted a Toyota Camry with a lighting violation. The car, driven by 33-year-old Rafael Sanchez of Anderson, was pulled over on Lake Boulevard. Hondo the K9 did a “free air sniff” of the car and reportedly alerted the deputy to the presence of drugs. The deputy searched the car and allegedly found a half-pound of Methamphetamine and more than an ounce of Heroin, as well as $9000 cash. Sanchez was booked into jail for possession and transportation of drugs for sale.
