Supervisors Expected To Vote On Sanctuary County Resolution

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors may resolve not to be a so-called “sanctuary county”. The vote will be made on a resolution during Tuesday’s meeting. The resolution declares that the county will assist federal immigration authorities, including with funding, personnel, and jail space. The move is in direct response to state senate bill 54, which would restrict such cooperation by county entities. It’s not yet clear how the state may respond to the apparent contradiction between state and local legislation.
