Women Accused Of ID Theft Sent Stolen Items To Chile

A follow-up investigation on a pair of sophisticated professional thieves has revealed their true identities, as well as a wealth of ill-gotten goods, according to Redding Police. On January 19th Elisa Beardon was shopping at TJ Maxx when her wallet was stolen. She soon started getting alerts from her credit card providers and, rather than cancel the cards, she went after the thieves, arriving at each of the stores only to miss the thieves by minutes. When the criminals’ shopping spree got to the Mount Shasta Mall, Elisa got help from Redding Police, Macy’s loss prevention and mall security and they tracked down the two suspects at Foot Locker. The two women had a number of items stolen from Elisa, and many more items purchased in her name. They also had what’s known as a ”booster bag”, a purse with hidden compartments lined with foil in order to thwart electronic security devices. They had made a fake Nevada identification card with Elisa’s information but with one of the suspects’ photo, using equipment they had in their car. They had charged nearly $10,000 worth of merchandise in less than two hours, and also had spent most of the $6,000 in Elisa’s wallet. A search warrant was obtained for the their car, and it was searched on Friday. Evidence was found indicating they had been traveling from town to town committing similar rip-offs and shipping the goods to Chile. The car contained 15 pair of American Eagle jeans, 36 bottles of expensive fragrances, 7 Apple watches, and designer items including Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Versace. One pair of Versace shoes had a price tag of $1095. Both women had Puerto Rico identification and gave false names. It took a while to figure out who they really are, but police say jail staff finally identified them as 25-year-old Camila Fernandez and 29-year-old Paola Jerez-Huerta, both of Chile. Both women remain in Shasta County Jail on a number of charges, including identity theft and conspiracy.
