CHP: Passenger Injured During Fatal Crash Near Etna

The Yreka Area Office of the CHP believes that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in a fatal crash just outside the town of Etna over the weekend. At around 1:40AM Saturday morning 19-year-old Henry Sutter was driving his 2004 Ford Ranger pickup northbound on Eastside Road south of Horn Lane. For unknown reasons, he lost control of the pickup and it left the roadway, went through a barbed wire cattle fence and down a steep embankment, then overturned in a small creek. Sutter was not wearing a seatbelt and he was partially ejected during the rollover. The truck came to rest on top of Sutter, trapping him underneath. He died at the scene. His passenger, 20-year-old Marquis Pitts, was also not wearing a seatbelt but he survived, suffering major facial lacerations. He was able to climb out of the wreckage and walk up to the road, where he flagged down a passing driver.
