Prescribed Burning Planned In Whiskeytown Recreation Area

Park Service officials at Whiskeytown plan to get some burning done before wet weather returns. The Buck Project is on the high ridge above Old Shasta, west of Centerville, at the easternmost boundary of the recreation area. The goal is to reduce hazardous fuels near homes and maintain natural landscapes. The 757 acres project began last Spring. 100 acres is planned for burning right away, possibly as soon as Thursday. Although it’s not a huge burn, the vegetation is thick and the location is at an elevation where it’s very visible from the valley.
