PG&E Issues Warning Of Scam Targeting Customers

It must be scam season. Right on the heels of a warning from the sheriff’s office, a new series of alerts is being issued by Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Apparently criminals are posing as PG&E workers and going door to door claiming to investigate outages of electric and phone service. When asked, they refuse to show identification, which is always a red flag because PG&E workers are required to show picture ID’s when asked. PG&E also never asks for immediate payment either in person or over the phone. If there’s ever any question, people are encouraged to call 1-800-743-5000.
