Prescribed Burning Project Set For Near Lake Shasta

A major prescribed burn project is set to continue this week near the Squaw and Pit Arms of Lake Shasta. The ongoing Green Mountain Project is designed to reduce wildfire danger and improve the habitat for species including Bald Eagles, Shasta Salamanders, Deer, Elk and Turkey. Thinning the underbrush also attracts more hunting opportunities. The 6500 acre project has been underway for almost 2 years. If the air quality and weather is right, up to 1441 acres of ground and ladder fuels will be torched over the next two days.
