Man Pleads Guilty To Murdering 24-Year-Old Woman

A Siskiyou County man has entered a guilty plea to first degree murder in the death of a young mother, according to the Siskiyou Daily News. In October of last year 24-year-old Katrina Leigh Eblem of Montague was reported missing. A week after her disappearance Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Investigators had been following leads that eventually led them to a remote area of the county, where they found Eblem’s body. She had been shot to death. 26-year-old Jere Thomas Ramey, also a Montague resident, was questioned and then arrested that evening. Ramey and Eblem had two children together. Ramey was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, but instead he decided to plead guilty after arriving at a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office. The Daily News quotes D.A. Kirk Andrus as saying he would not have accepted the deal with Ramey without first getting the approval of Eblem’s family. The deal will result in a sentence of 25 years to life in prison, plus an additional 10 years for the use of a gun. He said both the victim’s family and the killer’s family gave their approval. Without the deal Ramey could have gotten 50 years to life.
