Searchers Combing Shingletown Area For Missing Man

A Redding man is missing after a day of drinking in the Shingletown area. Sunday afternoon, 35-year-old Wayde Richard Rego went with Melissa Ellesbury and Michael Rozner to Bear Creek Falls, located off Ponderosa Way about 2 miles north of Highway 44. The three were drinking alcohol and Rego apparently became quite drunk. When it was time to go at around 6:30PM, Ellesbury and Rozner were walking to where their car was parked when they noticed Rego wasn’t following them. Rozner walked back to the waterfall but he couldn’t find Rego. He thought maybe he had walked back to their home in Shasta Forest Village but he wasn’t there when they arrived. At 1 O’clock Monday morning Ellesbury and Rozner reported Rego as missing. An hour later deputies began a search in the area of the waterfall. The terrain is very steep and rocky and Bear Creek is flowing very strong from the recent rains. Area roads have been checked and Shasta County Search and Rescue is searching the creek. A CHP helicopter and airplane are scanning from the air. Rego is a white man, 6-feet-tall and 190 pounds with red hair and green eyes. He was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, tan boots and a black ballcap.
