Corning Man Sentenced To 14 Years For Sword Attack

A Corning man has been sentenced to prison for attacking another man with a sword, apparently because of an unsatisfactory drug deal. In September, 29-year-old Jose Luis Hernandez the third was upset about some Methamphetamine he had purchased. Prosecutors say he went to a home on Butte Street in Corning seeking revenge against Jason Stewart. Hernandez refused to accept an offer of a refund for his money. He drew a sword and struck at Stewart repeatedly. Stewart suffered a stab wound in his neck and some of his fingers were nearly severed when he tried to protect his neck from the sword. Hernandez was arrested a few days later. For 2nd degree attempted murder with a prior strike, Hernandez has been sentenced to 14 years in state prison.
