Man Reported Missing After Day Of Drinking Found Dead

The search for a Redding man who was missing in the Shingletown area has not turned out well. The body of 35-year-old Wayde Richard Rego was found Thursday at the base of Bear Creek Falls. Rego had gone with Melissa Ellesbury and Michael Rozner to the falls located off Ponderosa Way on Sunday afternoon. The three were drinking alcohol and when it was time to go, Rego was nowhere to be found. At 1 O’clock Monday morning Ellesbury and Rozner reported Rego as missing. The terrain around the waterfall is very steep and rocky and Bear Creek is flowing very strong from the recent rains. Thursday afternoon Shasta County Search and Rescue teams returned to the area and found Rego’s body, which was hoisted up the cliff with a litter and a high angle rope system. The circumstances of Rego’s death are still under investigation.
