Live Fire Training Taking Place At Shasta College

Firefighters are intentionally lighting cars and building on fire at Shasta College. It’s all in order to hone their skills. The training involves numerous agencies and is intended to teach how to find the origins and causes of fires. Redding Fire Marshall Craig Wittner says a key to arson investigations, and any other fire investigation, is knowing the dynamics of how fires spread and what their tendencies are under various condition and with various materials. Cars and buildings are being torched, observed, and extinguished under the watchful eyes of fire professionals. A couple of Federal ATF arson experts are on hand as well to lend their knowledge. The training began Wednesday just north of the Old Oregon Trail Campus, and more torching is set for Thursday.
