Police Investigating Hammer Attack In Downtown Redding

A man was assaulted with a hammer in West Redding, but then turned the weapon on his attacker, according to Redding Police. 29-year-old Aaron Rasmussen called 9-1-1 at 7:30PM Wednesday night to report the incident, saying the other man had entered his room at his home on Shasta Street and struck him multiple times with the hammer. The other man was apparently 24-year-old Devan Nelson, who also lives at the location. After Rasmussen got the hammer away from nelson and hit him back, Nelson fled on foot. Officers found him several blocks away. Both men were hospitalized for their hammer injuries. The investigation is still underway.
