Air traffic in the skies above Shasta County this week might lead some people to believe that a major fire is raging nearby. Aerial firefighting crews from Cal-Fire and the Forest Service have been conducting joint tactical training exercises from the Redding Air Attack Base students have been learning to coordinate airtankers, helicopters, military firefighting aircraft, and smoke jumpers. They’ve been working a simulated fire in the Whitmore area.
