A 28-year-old convicted thief on probation was caught in the act of another burglary in broad daylight, according to Redding Police. At 10:45AM Monday morning, officers were sent to a reported burglary in progress on Layton Road. Witnesses saw a man force his way into a home while the resident was at work. The man left a short time later carrying a big load of stolen property. Officers arrived in time to see a man jumping over the back fence of the home on his way out. Other officers surrounded the area to box the burglar in. Michael Albert Shankles was taken into custody without a struggle. He allegedly had items on him that were taken from the house. Shankles is on probation for possession of stolen property. He was booked into jail.
