RPD: Man Caught Attempting To Steal Car From Auto Shop

A man was caught overnight in the act of trying to steal a car from an East Redding mechanic’s shop, according to police. At 1AM officers were sent to Rocha’s Auto Service at the corner of Shasta View Drive and Hartnell Avenue on reports that someone was breaking into vehicles. As they pulled into the lot, 38-year-old Jason Christopher Parker was allegedly inside one of the cars and, when he saw the police, he took off on foot. Officers gave chase and caught him a short distance away. The car he had apparently fled from had a broken window and a large rock was on the floor. It also had a broken steering column as a result of an attempt to get it started. Parker had a large screwdriver believed to have been used in that attempt. He was booked on several charges.
