University Of Oregon Student Found Dead At Shasta Lake

After spending the day drinking with friends at Lake Shasta, an Oregon College student was dead the next morning. A little before 9AM Saturday, Cal-Fire and Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating Safety Deputies were called to the Gooseneck Campground. When they arrived, CPR was underway but the 21-year-old man could not be revived and he was declared dead at the scene. He had been camping with other students from the University of Oregon and had been drinking all day on Friday before crawling into his small tent in the early evening. His friends checked on him in the morning and discovered him inside his sleeping bag not breathing. The coroners office says there’s no sign of foul play and the death is not considered suspicious. They’re trying to determine if alcohol contributed to the man’s death. The University of Oregon has apologized for a statement it put out after the death. They’ve identified the student as Business Administration Major Dylan Pietrs. The university’s statement said many students make “poor life choices” during trips to the lake.
