Council Will Discuss Numerous Problems At South City Park

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Redding City Council will consider a proposal to cross-fence South City Park. The idea is part of a package of proposals concerning the Colt 45’s baseball team, which plays at the park’s “Tiger Field”. The other parts of the agreement include donating a surplus ATV to the team, and renewing their existing maintenance agreement with some amendments. The fencing plan would segregate the “play area”, which includes the Bocce Ball courts and the baseball field, so they would only be accessible by reservation. the picnic area would remain open to the public. The sometimes unruly homeless population in South City Park has greatly reduced it’s traditional use as a family-friendly recreation area. Colt 45’s Manager and Former Redding Mayor Rick Bosetti recently reported being assaulted by a homeless woman in the park.
