The Latest: Van With 14 Show Dogs Located South Of Redding

All 14 missing show dogs have been found alive and locked inside the van that was carrying them when it was stolen in Redding Wednesday. The van was stolen from the parking lot of In-and-Out Burger in Redding, according to the owner of three of the dog’s, Amy McLaughlin of Seattle.McLaughlin and two companions were on their way to a dog show in Vallejo with 14 purebred champion bloodline dogs when they stopped in Redding for food and fuel. in the brief few minutes the van was unattended, it was stolen by a man who has not been identified. Since the theft, the various owners of the dogs had been pledging money for a reward fund that climbed to $30,000. Then at 10:30AM Thursday morning a tip was received from someone who thought they may have seen the van in the woods off Canyon Road about a mile from Highway 273. A CHP airplane did a flyover and spotted the vehicle, guiding Redding Police to the location. Officers could hear the dogs barking inside so they broke a window to gain access and cool the interior for the hot, panting dogs. They were taken by Haven Humane to be checked out before being handed over to their keepers. McLaughlin said her computer, purse and other belongings were stolen, but those things don’t matter. The area where the van had been abandoned is known by residents of the neighborhood as a frequent hangout for drug users and illegal campers. Anyone with information on the possible thief is urged to call Redding Police.
