As if red flag conditions aren’t enough to worry about, Redding Fire Department says a young arsonist was responsible for a pair of fires in East Redding. Saturday evening firefighters were called to Shasta View Drive at Tarmac Road. They quickly extinguished a fire in a vacant lot that burned about an acre of dry grass. Investigator Patrick O’Connor talked to witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses to find that a juvenile had intentionally started the fire, as well as another fire in the same area Thursday evening. Charges will be filed with the district attorney’s office and the juvenile’s parents will be billed for suppression costs.
