Vacant Building Gutted By Fire In Downtown Redding

A large black column of smoke rose from just off South Market Street Monday night. It was produced by a surprisingly small building on an otherwise vacant lot on Ellis Street behind the RABA facility. Battalion Chief Sean Coleman says the tightly arranged building was boarded up but it had a lot to burn on the inside, including a second floor. The location used to be a recycling center. Coleman says it might be owned by Waste Management but that hadn’t been determined. The cause is under investigation.
