A stabbing incident has provided further justification for the planned fencing of South City Park in Redding. Just after 5 O’clock Thursday officers were called to the park, where they found 37-year-old Brian Serrano suffering from a laceration to his knee. He pointed out another homeless man, 40-year-old Edward Russell of Washington State. Apparently, Russell had been harassing other homeless people and trying to pick fights with them when Serrano intervened and Russell turned his aggression onto him. He took a stick that Serrano uses to help him walk and the two fell to the ground. As they struggled, Russell allegedly tabbed Serrano. Most of the other transients in the park were uncooperative and refused to provide witness statements. Serrano went to the hospital and Russell went to jail.
