A fire burning northwest of French Gulch was sparked by a campfire burning in an illegal marijuana grow, according to Cal Fire. The Highland Fire started just before 1:30PM on Friday afternoon near Highland Ridge Road and Trinity Mountain Road. The fire is burning in steep terrain and firefighters are reporting difficult access. The fire has burned 63 acres and is 60% contained. Smoke will be visible over the next few days as crews work on full containment.
