Crews Contain Separate Transient Sparked Fire

Redding fire crews responded to two separate vegetation fires that were intentionally started Tuesday, according to investigators. The 1st fire was reported in the Henderson Open Space near the Sacramento River. The fire was reported about 10:30AM and crews had difficulty accessing the fire. Fire equipment had to be hiked in on foot and by 4 wheel drive vehicles. The fire was burning in a well established transient camp on private property near the river. Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene investigators say the fire was intentionally started and remains an active investigation.

The 2nd fire was reported about 6PM and was burning near the Sandpoint Apartments on Hilltop Drive. Quick action by firefighters on the slow moving fire kept the fire from damaging nearby homes and apartments. Fire investigators say this is the 2nd fire in the same area this year. The fire was intentionally started in an area of well know transient camps. The fire burned about 2 acres.
