Ash From Fires Can Contain Toxic Dangers

People returning to burned areas are warned not to stir up dust and ash because the burned materials can contain a lot of toxic chemicals. The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services made a plea Thursday for property owners to allow them to handle the removal of ash and contaminated soil. It’s not free, as the state will make a claim on the property owner’s insurance, but they said that the state will absorb any costs that exceed the insurance coverage. A Local Assistance Center with dozens of government and non-profit organizations offering services is now open at Shasta High School every day from 9am to 7pm.
