The Carr Fire has now surpassed 200,000 acres, but containment has improved significantly. The fire has burned 201,680 acres, now with 61% containment. The number of burned structures is unchanged, with 1,077 homes, 22 commercial structure and 500 other buildings. Much of the additional acreage is on account of burnout operations to strengthen containment lines. Crews continue to be challenged by heavy timber burning on steep slopes with spread from burning material rolling downhill, as well as a lot of spot fires. The Carr Fire is now the 8th largest fire in California history.
Two of the fires in the Hirz Incident have burned together. The Forest Service incident began early Thursday morning as three fires located off of Gilman Road on the McCloud Arm of the lake. The fires are burning near the road in timber with chaparral and tall grasses. The smallest of the fires has been contained, but the two larger fires have merged and are burning north northwest up the slope of Hirz Mountain. The Forest Service said the total size is now 4404 acres, and it’s just 5% contained. 8 homes have been evacuated.
A fire that broke out in Eastern Shasta County on Thursday is no longer threatening any homes. Located between Burney and Fall River Mills, the Hat Fire forced evacuations and the closure of Highway 299. As of Monday morning the fire is estimated at 1900 acres and it’s now 62% contained. All evacuations and road closures have been lifted.
