Update: Additional Carr Fire Evacuations Lifted

Cal-Fire has lifted the evacuation orders for the entire Rainbow Lake area. The order was lifted at Noon Tuesday. The public lands in the Rainbow Lake Area remain closed. The continuing spread of the Carr Fire is mostly fuels and topography driven. Crews are continuing back burning operations to strengthen control lines. Additional smoke will be seen for the next several days from Lakehead to west of Shasta Lake along the I-5 corridor. The massive blaze has blackened 207,162 acres. Containment is at 65%. The number of burned structures has remained the same for some time now, still 1,077 homes destroyed, along with 22 commercial structures and 500 other buildings. Hundreds more have been damaged. Only 113 structures are considered threatened. Crews continue to strengthen containment lines with burnout operations, hand crews and dozers. On the eastern flank, an arm of contingency line has reached the shore of Lake Shasta. Crews continue to be challenged by heavy timber burning on steep slopes with spread from burning material rolling downhill, as well as a lot of spot fires.
