Hirz Fire Grows To Over 9-Thousand Acres

The Hirz Fire continues to grow at an alarming rate. Firefighters continue to try to keep the fire from jumping Gilman Road. Two “Super Scooper” aircraft were used Wednesday to take water from Lake Shasta in an attempt to subdue the fire. The fire has grown to 9363 acres with significant growth to the north and west It remains just 5% contained. Due to increased activity in Bastard Canyon the Shasta County Sheriffs Office has ordered evacuations for residents of Old Mill Road, Bonnie Vista Lane, and the portion of Hill Trail West of Gilman Road to Bonnie Vista Lane. Residents of Hirz Mountain Road who were evacuated a couple of days ago are still under an evacuation order. Gilman Road has a soft closure between Old Mill Road and the McCloud River Bridge. Several campgrounds and boat launches in the area are closed. The Lake Shasta Caverns are open.
